Like a Tree

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.  He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.  It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.  It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit (Jeremiah 17:7-8).

Do you ever find it difficult to totally trust in God?  With all the latest technology in today's sophisticated world, man has almost everything at his disposal; just press a button or flip a switch and we have instant gratification.  We can phone, fax or email anyone at any time.

Could it be that we take a lot for granted?  We assume that disaster will not strike in our lives.  We know it could happen, but we really don't think about it happening to us.

In Matthew 5:45 God's Word tells us, "He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous."  And in 1 Samuel 2:7, God's Word says "The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts."  When trials do come into our lives, then we remember to trust in God, our wonderful Savior, who has been taking care of us all along.  Many times it takes a crisis for God to get our attention.

When we are faced with trials, our hearts are heavy, and sometimes we don't quite know how to pray.  Remember, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us, and just being filled with God's presence gives us serenity.  He will always carry our load.  I am reminded of a song that says, "He gives peace in the midst of pain."

When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider:  God has made the one as well as the other (Ecclesiastes 7:14).

God in is infinite wisdom knows exactly what we need and when we need it.  While we are anxiously waiting, our Lord embraces us with His love and patience.  Isn't He just too wonderful!

If we humble ourselves and look to God as our Lord and master and acknowledge our total dependence upon Him, we can be like a tree, rooted firmly in Christ.
