How we Perceive

Have you ever made any of the following comments?

  • I don't like my job; the hours are too long and the pay too little.

  • This line at the supermarket is too long--seems I always get in the wrong line.

  • This traffic is really getting to me.  Let me out of here.

  • Cleaning the house is so boring, an endless and thankless job.

  • Oh no, not rain again.  It spoils all my plans.

  • There are just more bills than we can handle.

  • There are so many health problems in this family; why does God allow this to happen?

How we perceive a given situation can cause us more pain than the situation itself.  Let us use our circumstances to learn more about ourselves, becoming aware of areas that need work in our lives.

Look at what God has to say about what our response should be.  In Ephesians 5:20 God says, "Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."  Not just the good things, but Everything!

Be thankful for each day and see it as an opportunity to recognize our circumstances in a new light.  Remember the Scripture from Psalm 19:14, which says, "May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer."

More importantly, when we can learn to turn to God rather than reacting negatively, we draw closer to Him and deepen our faith.
